hey read this page extension

Last updated: August 17, 2026

TL;DR

Your reading stays on your device.

hey read this page has no account, server, analytics, advertising, or tracking. It processes page text locally in Chrome to create audio.

What the Extension Reads

When you choose Read this page, the extension reads the text and title from the current webpage so it can build a listening queue and highlight the paragraph being spoken.

This content is used only for the current listening session and is processed locally in your browser.

What Is Stored Locally

Two preferences are saved in Chrome's local extension storage:

  • Your selected voice
  • Your selected reading pace

These preferences remain on your device and are not sent to us.

No Data Collection

We do not collect, sell, share, transmit, or retain your page text, generated audio, browsing history, or personal information. The extension does not use analytics or advertising services.

Chrome Permissions

  • storage: Saves your chosen voice and pace locally.
  • offscreen: Keeps local speech generation and audio playback running after the popup closes.
  • windows: Lets you return to the tab currently being read.
  • HTTP(S) page access: Lets the extension read the page you ask it to read and highlight the current paragraph.
